Ceramic figurine (black basalt) depicting Ganymede with Jupiter's eagle by Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844) Designed in Rome 1817-18. This copy from the Copenhagen pottery factory Peter Ipsen was made around 1900. According to Greek mythology, Jupiter's eagle abducts Ganymede in order to make him the cupbearer (servant) of the gods. Factory mark on the bottom with P. Ipsen, KJØBENHAVN ENERET and model number 349. Dimensions: H. 19 cm. The base measures 9 x 22.5 cm
